How to sync bookmarks across multiple Chrome profiles

The short answer

Chrome has no built-in way to share bookmarks between two profiles. There are three approaches that work in practice: a one-off export and import, signing profiles into the same Google account, or an extension that syncs selected folders across profiles. Which one is right depends on whether you need this once or continuously.

Why Chrome does not do it

Every Chrome profile is bound to one Google account and Chrome sync keeps that account's bookmarks identical across your devices. It has no concept of two of your accounts being the same person. That isolation is the entire point of profiles — it is what stops your personal history appearing in a client's screen share — so Chrome will not be adding a cross-profile toggle.

Option 1 — Export and import (free, one-off)

1. In the source profile open the bookmark manager (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + O), use the three-dot menu and choose Export bookmarks. You get an HTML file.
2. Switch to the target profile, open the bookmark manager and choose Import bookmarks.
3. Pick the HTML file. Chrome adds everything under an “Imported” folder.

This is a copy, not a sync. Anything you add afterwards in either profile stays there, and deletions are never reflected. Repeating it monthly produces duplicate folders. Use it when you are seeding a brand-new profile, not as an ongoing arrangement.

Option 2 — Sign both profiles into one Google account

Chrome will then genuinely sync the bookmarks, because to Chrome the two profiles are now the same person. It also merges history, passwords, autofill and extensions, and both profiles now appear as one account to every site you visit. If you separated the profiles for account isolation, this undoes exactly the thing you wanted. It is only sensible for two profiles that were never meant to be different identities.

Option 3 — A cross-profile sync extension

An extension installed in each profile can read the folders you nominate and keep them matched, with additions and deletions flowing both ways, while the profiles stay signed into their own accounts. This is what Braid Sync's bookmark syncing does. Setup:

1. Install the extension in every profile that should take part.
2. Activate the same licence in each.
3. Nominate the folders to share — typically a small “shared” folder, not everything.
4. Click Sync now once and check the merged tree.

Judge any extension in this category on three things: whether it is selective, whether deletions propagate, and what else it transmits. An extension that reads all bookmarks and history to sync one folder is asking for far more than it needs.
